Grant has changed his planned field of study to business and marketing, and his career goal is to work for an organization that will impact people’s lives.
He was a three-sport athlete in high school and started working at age 15. He volunteers at University of Iowa Hospital for Children, which he describes as “by far the most rewarding volunteer position I’ve ever had.” During school breaks, he helps with the children’s program at his church. He also recently started helping coach his brother’s basketball team. His brother is autistic, and Grant says, “I get to help him and other kids like him learn and play the game I’m extremely passionate about.”
Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche says that Grant emulates his father’s characteristics of intelligence, respect, and drive. Reference Cassandra Johnson says, “Grant does the right thing, even when the right thing is not the popular thing.” He is an advocate for those who do not have a voice or who need support, and he works to make the community and the world a better place.
