Kristen shares that receiving the Alan P. Sondej Scholarship from the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation has been a transformative experience in her academic and professional journey. Growing up with a deep respect for the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters, this scholarship has allowed her to pursue her dream of becoming a medical professional without the overwhelming burden of student debt. The financial support has enabled Kristen to fully dedicate herself to the rigors of medical school, and it has instilled in her a greater motivation to honor the service of firefighters and first responders by making meaningful contributions to the field of medicine.
Beyond the financial relief, the scholarship has connected Kristen with a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for service and respect for the firefighting profession. She was recently accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society as a 3rd year medical student. Acceptance into this society as a 3rd year medical student is unheard of, and she was 1 of only 12 students accepted.
Retired firefighter Hal Grout states, “I have known Kristen for several years after meeting her and her family at the National Fallen firefighters Memorial Weekend while they were celebrating the life of her father, Tommy Adams. The personal and academic drive that I have witnessed in her is second to none! After three years of medical school, she is well on track to becoming an outstanding clinician.”
