Marty’s career goal is to be a nurse educator. She says she was faced with major setbacks in her previous semester that drastically affected her GPA and academic performance, but she did not give up. In addition to her major in pre-nursing, she has added a Phlebotomy EKG Tech certification course. Marty has been diagnosed with dyslexia.
English professor Dr. Margaret Wong recommends Marty for a scholarship based on her diligence, creativity, and commitment to excellence. Dr. Wong says that Marty displays leadership, thoughtfulness, and collaboration in class. Another of Marty’s teachers, RN Barbara Drake, describes Marty as “an example of what is best in youth today” and cites her intelligence, caring, honesty, and hard work as assets.
