Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Randi Sewell

Major: Social Work
Academic Scholarship Years:
Spouse of
Randi Sewell

Randi’s career goal is to obtain a master’s degree in Social Work and become a grief counselor to specifically work with individuals who have experienced similar losses as she did in becoming a widow at the age of twenty-four with two small children.

Prior to her husband’s very public death, Randi was involved in her community by volunteering at church and with the fire department. Currently, as the sole provider of two minor children she is currently pursuing volunteer opportunities at a new church and her daughter’s preschool with the limited time she has available when not caring for her children and working.

Assistant Chief Brad Lott of the North Tazewell Volunteer Fire Department recommends Randi for the scholarship citing her support in helping with fundraising, special projects and an avid supporter of the department for almost 10 years. These traits along with her ability to support others navigating a unique loss with true empathy and compassion make her an excellent candidate to succeed in completing her career goals.
