Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Ryan Rice

Major: Business Administration
Academic Scholarship Years:
Son of
Ryan Rice

Ryan wants to become a firefighter like his father, to serve his city and its people. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree before attending the fire academy, as he plans to start his own business and work for himself in addition to a career in the fire service.

Ryan works as a cashier. He is a member of the Men’s Club Lacrosse Team at his university. He prioritizes his mental and physical health by exercising daily, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep. He is proud of his educational accomplishments, work ethic, and commitment to his educational goals.

Ryan’s elementary school teacher, Courtney Goldsworthy, says Ryan, “has displayed responsibility, grit, and tenacity” in whatever he does. Deputy Fire Chief Jay Dowling says Ryan is very involved in the community.

Ryan’s previous scholarship was made possible with support from
Motorola Solutions Foundation, MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund, the National Association of State Fire Marshals, and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
