Lieutenant Joseph Priore, FDNY Engine 18, and eleven fellow firefighters died in a collapse during a fire on East 23rd Street on October 17, 1966.
This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
Mr. Priore, I am proud of you for being a hero and helping others! You went away too soon, however you will never be forgotten!
