Engineer
Age: 54
Year of Death: 2022

David J. Studer

David James Studer, son of Loreen and the late Robert W. Studer, was a highly regarded gentleman and respected resident of Ryland Heights, Kentucky. He was a brave firefighter with the Covington Fire Department for 25 years, an honorable combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a proud member of CFD Local No. 38, and a devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and #1 pawpaw!

Dave was a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his father and by his father-n-law, Earl L. Owens. He is survived by his mother; mother-in-law, Cindy Owens; and wife, Carie Owens Studer; beloved children, Cayden Eubank (Matt Wheeler), Ivan Eubank (Megan Crouch), and Hadley Owens; grandchildren, Finleigh, Brooks, Beau, Posie, and Charlie; brothers, Donny (Stephanie) and Jeff (Angel) Studer; sister, Pam Studer; sister-in-law, Julie Owens; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was an incredible husband and father. He was always there for all of us. He was the “cheer dad,” the chauffeur, cook, did laundry, knew how to do algebra, was very resourceful, and was always willing to help. A “jack of all trades” is what I always called him. He knew how to do everything from building furniture and cornhole boards to electric, plumbing, and even working on our cars. He was a great provider, a hard worker, funny, and the most sarcastic person I knew. He enjoyed life and didn’t sweat the small stuff.

Dave always kept us laughing. He was as witty as they came and loved to play pranks on us. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cornhole, and Tonk. But his favorite thing to do was spend time with his grand babies on his small chicken farm. They would raise laying hens from baby chicks and then sell the eggs to neighbors, friends, and family. He started college fund accounts for them with the money they would collect from selling the eggs.

When Dave was not at home with his family, you would find him at the firehouse, his home away from home with his second family. Dave loved all his brothers and sisters at CFD and loved being a firefighter. He proudly followed in his father’s and older brothers’ footsteps and became a firefighter in 1997. In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of engineer and was assigned to Truck 1 tillerman. Dave passed away on January 20, 2022, due to complications from COVID-19, just months away from retirement. He is deeply missed by many, and his loss leaves his family heartbroken and grief stricken.

    – Carie Studer (wife)
  2. a true hero in my life. His kindness, strength, and wisdom shaped who I am today, and I will forever be grateful for his guidance and love.

He had a way of making everyone feel special. He taught me the importance of integrity and compassion, and his laughter could light up any room. Whether he was sharing stories or offering advice, he did it with a warmth that made everyone feel at home.

Although he’s no longer with us, I know he’s watching over us from heaven and they sure are lucky to have him. I’m thankful for the memories, the lessons, and the love he shared. His spirit will always be with me, and I will carry his legacy forward.

Rest in peace, Uncle David. You will always be my hero.

    Love Always, PJ 🤍

  3. Dear Dave, to say that we miss you terribly is an understatement. There are no words to describe the vast hole you left in so many hearts when you left this world. Your quick wit and sarcasm remain unmatched! You kept us laughing always! Your bravery shown in your time in the Marines and as a Firefighter was incredible! You set the bar high without even knowing how many you inspired! You always welcomed me when staying with you and Carie and the kids. The day you married Carie was one of the happiest days of mine and Alan’s lives! You were the brightest light in any room you were in. You were and still are a Hero in our eyes. We are all better for knowing you and having you in our lives. God bless you Dave Studer
