Edward J. Matter‚ Jr.‚ 56‚ a volunteer firefighter with the Westford Fire Department‚ died after being struck by a falling tree while clearing roadway debris on March 8‚ 1998. A 31-year fire service veteran‚ he served on the Board of Directors of the Central New York Fireman’s Association and was past president of the Otsego County Volunteer Fireman’s Association.
