Andy Eyster

Andy Eyster was born on June 21, 1972, to William “Hank” and Betty Eyster. Inspired by his favorite childhood TV show, Emergency!, Andy dedicated his life to protecting his community and helping others. He began his career at Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Squad and then Satellite Beach Fire Department before joining the Melbourne Fire Department, where he retired as a lieutenant. During his career, he also spent time as a flight paramedic for First Flight. In addition to his work with the fire department and First Flight, Andy was an educator and devoted a significant amount of time to training and mentoring paramedics.

Andy had many interests outside of the fire department. He had a great love for all kinds of music, especially classic rock. Attending a concert or watching a local band was his favorite pastime. He was passionate about playing guitar. As a self-proclaimed “mediocre guitarist,” Andy loved sharing his passion for music by posting “Name That Tune” videos of himself playing guitar to his social media. He enjoyed relaxing and watching a baseball game, always cheering on his favorite team, the Miami Marlins. His other joys were flight simulating, playing vintage video and pinball games, and shooting at the range. He was a great cook and always looking to try out a new recipe.

During his courageous 3½-year battle with cancer, Andy continued his service to others by participating in clinical research trials, hoping to contribute to advancements in cancer treatment that could benefit future patients. When asked if he was sure he wanted to proceed with an experimental treatment, his response was “if it does not help me, it will help someone else”. This was how Andy lived his life – always willing to help in any situation.

Andy’s legacy of service, courage, and mentorship will never be forgotten. His sense of humor, loyalty, and strength are greatly missed by his family and friends. The impact of his life, work, music, and love as a father to Eyan and Brett, stepfather to Jordan, Trent, and Averi, and husband to Amy, as well as contributions to cancer research, will continue to resonate with all who knew him.
