Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Year of Death: 1976

Anthony A. Czak

On July 17, 1976 members of the Mormon Lake (AZ) Hotshot Crew were deployed to the Battlement Creek Wildland Fire near the town of Rifle, Colorado. Members of their crew were part of a small squad that became trapped on top of a ridge by the fire. When the fire overran their position, Anthony Czak, and two other Mormon Lake Hotshots lost their lives.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
