Barrie Jon Niebergall

Submitted by his wife

Barrie was very dedicated to two things‚ his family and the fire service. His passion and zest for life included his Harley‚ skiing‚ golf‚ boating on Lake Powell‚ and his love for the Rocky Mountains and the great outdoors. Barrie’s work ethic raised the bar for those he worked with. He was demanding and expected the best from the men and women he worked with. Yet‚ he brought laughter‚ sparkle and wit into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He worked for the Lake Dillon Fire Department and Frisco Fire Department for 21 years. He went up the ranks and retired as a captain from there.

He missed the fire department so much‚ he went back to work for the Red‚ White‚ and Blue Fire Department and started as a Driver Operator and acting lieutenant. He also started a business selling fire trucks. The name of his business was BEAR Sales. This was one of his nicknames‚ but also stood for Brush‚ Engine‚ Aerial and Rescue apparatus. He also taught Hydraulics classes at the college for many years‚ as well as teaching many of the firefighters how to drive fire trucks.

Barrie loved the challenges of Wildland firefighting and was an engine boss every year on his crew. He always told his family he would quit when he turned 50‚ but every year he would say next year. He took great pride in his physical condition and always loved beating the younger guys’ times when they trained for the ‘red card’ or during the combat challenge.

He will always be remembered for his infectious laughter‚ hilarious ‘Barriesms’‚ and his unparalleled sense of humor‚ including the nicknames he had for his family and friends and the many pranks he played on them. He is greatly missed by his family‚ friends and brother and sister firefighters.

Barrie is survived by his wife‚ Sharon‚ his son Shane and wife Lisa‚ grandson Colin‚ his parents Ross and Roberta‚ his sisters Julie‚ Marna‚ and Angie and their families.
