Brian J. Letrent

Brian J. Letrent was born in Toms River and raised in Bayville, New Jersey, in Berkeley Township. Brian was a 2007 graduate of Central Regional High School in Bayville. Brian had true values of service to his country and community.

During his senior year in high school, he began his boot camp training. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to serve in Iraq for six months. He was
honorably discharged from Fort Drum in New York.

Brian’s desire to help others was established with his service to his country and did not end there.
Upon his return to his hometown, he started volunteering with Pinewald Pioneer Fire Company and was a certified HAZMAT technician in the Berkeley Emergency Response Team in Berkeley Township before settling into Bayville Volunteer Fire Company #1, where he served honorably at Station #17 in Ocean County until his untimely passing.

Brian brought to Bayville Volunteer Fire Company his experience and willingness to do anything he
was asked to do. He continually rose above the norm to excel as a firefighter and brother to everyone who knew him. His commitment to the fire service was second to none.

During Brian’s tenure at Bayville Volunteer Fire Company, he was involved in all aspects of firefighting. He was recognized annually for being a top responder and, in 2022, was awarded the Medal of Gallantry for his outstanding efforts during a water rescue in town. Brian was an apparatus engineer and was made an exempt firefighter in the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.

With Brian’s hometown roots and being an active outdoorsman, he loved quadding, camping, NASCAR racing, and kayaking. He was an active hunter, which he shared with many firefighters and friends in his community, Brian was employed with Berkeley Township as a mechanic for the Berkeley Sewerage Department along with several town firefighters. His camaraderie of community service and employment combined with his desire to serve his town was a testament to his commitment in life.

The Bayville Volunteer Fire Company motto, The desire to serve, the courage to act, the ability to perform, was the embodiment of Firefighter Brian J. Letrent, and he will be sorely missed by Bayville Volunteer Fire Company and Berkeley Township.

Brian will be remembered as a loving son, brother, nephew, and cousin. We are all better for knowing him, and he will be deeply missed.
