Lieutenant Brian Hatt of the Raywick Fire Department died Monday, August 25, 2025, at the University of Louisville Hospital after his tanker overturned while responding to a mutual aid fire run. Brian was born on June 25, 1974. He served his Raywick community for 12 years and achieved the title of lieutenant shortly after he started the fire department in 2013.
Lieutenant Hatt worked as a human resource assistant for the U.S. Army Recruiting Division. He served his country in the United States Army for 12 years, was deployed three times, and fought for our country in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Lieutenant Hatt shared his love for the fire service with Tonya, his wife of 23 years. Brian was a loving father of three (Austin, Autumn, and Alayna) and a grandfather of two (Evelyn and Jaycee). Brian and Tonya’s relationship started as friends, and they never left each other’s side. Together, their most enjoyable times were when the entire family was gathered at their home.
Brian served his community up until his last day. He always took pride in his job as a firefighter and always was one of the first to respond. Whether you knew Brian for years or you had just met him, you knew he would always be a helping hand. You also knew he loved his wife unconditionally, his children without hesitation, and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Brian will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, friend, and a respected firefighting professional. His dedication to the service touched so many people, and he will be deeply missed. We are all better for knowing and loving him, and we are blessed to have seen his smile.
