Corban Summers was an amazing husband to his wife, Kim. Newly married, they were incredibly happy and excited for the future together. Corban was the father to four beautiful children, Cadence, Dallin, Myrah, and Adelle, who were his world. All he had sacrificed in his life was for them.
Corban was born on June 13, 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of six children. He was drawn to the fire service in his early 20s, not only to serve the community but to become someone his children would be proud of. He started his career at West Jordan City Fire Department, then transferred to South Jordan City Fire Department, where he served for 24 years as an engineer and senior firefighter. He also worked part-time for Saratoga Springs and Bluffdale City Fire Departments.
Corban thrived in his job. He believed in camaraderie and the brotherhood. He was the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, both on and off duty. He was selfless. No matter how he was feeling, he would make sure everyone around him had a better day because he was there with his quick wit, humor, pranks, encouragement, or a listening ear. Because of this, there wasn’t a person that knew him that didn’t love working with him.
He was the one to rally the troops when a call came in and never hesitated to share his knowledge. He would take any assignment and do it with a smile. South Jordan City has now instituted a yearly Corban Summers Award for those who embody his qualities.
Off duty, Corban loved the outdoors. His favorite place was his family’s cabin near Fruitland, Utah, where he found restoration and peace. He loved to hike, fish, and watch nature, but most of all, he loved to sit around the campfire and play his guitar.
Corban enjoyed sharing even the most mundane activities with those he loved and turning them into the most incredible adventure.
We were so lucky to have known his generous and unique spirit. He is so deeply missed.
