Year Honored:

Corby Michael McKenzie

Corby McKenzie was a protector in every sense of the word, steadfast, faithful, and calm when others needed it most. In moments of chaos, he carried a quiet strength that steadied those around him. He was the firefighter you trusted without hesitation, whose presence brought reassurance before a word was ever spoken.

At the heart of Corby’s life was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Vicki, and a loving father to Chris McKenzie, Hailey McKenzie, Coltin McKenzie, Madison Stankevitz, and Taylor Decell, and father-in-law to Kyle Decell. Corby cherished his role as a grandfather and found great joy in time spent with his grandchildren, Hudson Decell and Evelyn Decell, whom he loved dearly. Whether at home or at the station, Corby’s life was anchored in love and service.

Corby served three years as a volunteer with the Magnolia Fire Department before beginning his career with the South Montgomery County Fire Department in September 2015. He quickly became a pillar of Station 11-1, B-Shift, where he was known as a steady presence, a big brother, and a trusted leader. His dedication and courage earned him Life Saving Awards and Impact Awards for his efforts in the field, recognizing his role in saving multiple lives.

Within the fire service, Corby had a special passion for mentoring rookies. He celebrated phase completions, encouraged growth, and helped others find confidence in themselves. His leadership was marked by patience, humility, and an unwavering belief in those he served beside.

When faced with occupational cancer, Corby fought with courage, faith, and determination. Though his earthly watch has ended, we know he is fully healed and now stands guard over a far greater territory—his service complete, his peace secured.

Corby McKenzie’s legacy lives on in his family, his fire family, and every life he touched. His watch continues in eternity, forever honored and forever remembered.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11
