Curt was on his way to EMT class in Marion‚ SD. He was making a turn at an intersection when a pickup was making the same turn from the opposite direction. Due to the fog‚ neither Curt nor the other driver was aware of each other. Curt was struck on the driver’s door of the vehicle he was driving and died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Curt was involved in many fire department and other events in the community‚ including the Hurley Jaycees.
He was on the department approximately 3 years. A new fire department building was built in Hurley in 2003 and was dedicated in his memory in July 2003. His name is well known to this day‚ and brings many laughs and smiles to all who knew him in our community. His willingness to serve as a firefighter and humor will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife.
