Daniel F. Conway

Private Daniel F. Conway, age 22, of the District of Columbia Fire Department died on May 18, 1896, from injuries sustained in a collapse during the Commission House fire.

Although Private Conway was new, with only nineteen days on the department, he earned a commendation from the Chief for distinction. The Commission House was his first fire. Prior to the fire department he worked for the Water Company.

He was the oldest of eight children. He was survived by his widowed mother and siblings for whom he was the sole means of support.
