Age: 46
Year of Death: 2021
Year Honored:

Eddy Wayne Wood

Eddy approached life on full blast! Born November 5, 1974, Chief Wood dedicated himself to saving lives, mentoring others, and living a life of high integrity with the fire service. Eddy embodied his loveable clown persona while demonstrating humor, wit, and inventive playfulness. Eddy always put family first. He was a compassionate and considerate husband who truly believed he found his soulmate in Ann. She was his “ride or die.” Eddy could be seen putting on a spectacle with Bert the fire puppet, chasing the kids as Daddy-saurus and bringing a smile to those around him.

Chief Wood’s warrior spirit sustained him through his battle with brain cancer, which ended on September 25, 2021. Eddy started his public safety career in 1992 as a dispatcher with the city of Azle, Texas. After basic fire training, he served as a full-time firefighter with the city of Azle. Eddy joined the North Richland Hills Fire Department in October 1998 as a firefighter/paramedic and was promoted in 2009 to battalion chief. After he retired from North Richland Hills in 2017, he served as fire chief for the city of Brownwood until 2019. He then relocated to Saginaw, Texas as the fire marshal/division chief.

Chief Wood was a Master Mason, a Shrine Clown (Sparky), and president of the Mooslah Shrine Clowns 2014. At community events, he was a master face painter for the little ones. A native Texan, he was a well-known cowboy and was in high demand as a campfire cook.

Eddy leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann Ellison-Wood, and stepdaughters, Avery and Leah Ellison. He is also survived by his son, Taylor Wood (wife Lacie); grandchildren, Whitten, Waylon, and Rylee Farmer; daughter, Cheyenne Wood; mother, Linda Wood Peninger (husband Gary); father, Horace Wood; and sisters, Kristi Harm (husband Scott and son Collin) and Lisa Elwell (husband Ethan).

Greater love has no man than this: that a man lays down his life for his friends. John 15:13
