Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Year of Death: 1968

Edward Dennis

On July 14, 1968, Firefighter Edward G. Dennis, 41, of Engine 18 suffered a fatal heart attack while at the scene of a multiple-alarm fire involving a half-dozen vacant buildings. That blaze, which was reported around 2:30 a.m., was followed by a three-alarm fire in an abandoned factory. Both fires was called “definitely suspicious” in nature.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
