Year Honored:

Edward F. Hine

Edward F. Hine was the son of John and Elnor Hine. He was a 1959 graduate of Central Dauphin High School and continued his education at Millersville University, earning his degree in 1963 and setting the foundation for the life of work, family, and community service he would build in the decades that followed.

Service to the Colonial Park Fire Company (CPFC) stood at the heart of Ed’s life. From 1966 until his passing in 2020, he gave more than five decades of faithful volunteer service to the citizens of his community. Ed served as president of the company from 1970 through 1989, helping guide its growth while strengthening its mission of protection, education, and public service.

Ed never hesitated to give of himself. Whether standing outdoors in harsh weather selling Christmas trees to support the company, visiting local schools to teach fire safety, or quietly supporting fellow volunteers, he believed no task was too small when it served the greater good. He held a deep conviction that education saves lives, and his lessons, especially to children, left lasting impressions that extended far beyond the classroom.

In addition to Ed’s commitment to CPFC, he faithfully served Colonial Park Community Baptist Church (CPCBC) in a number of capacities. He also proudly gave back to his community through leadership positions in various Boy Scouts of America troops. In later years, Ed devoted many volunteer hours to the American Legion, Post 272. There, he honored fellow veterans by helping secure flags at cemeteries on patriotic holidays and by coordinating honor guard members for funeral services at Ft. Indiantown Gap and in the greater Harrisburg area.

Beyond his service, Ed was known for his warmth, humility, and sense of humor. To many, he was remembered as someone whose presence brought lightness, kindness, and comfort. He served not for recognition, but because it was who he was. Ed’s legacy lives on through the community he served, the lives he protected, and the values he modeled every day. His lifetime commitment to service stands as an enduring example of honor, sacrifice, and love.

Ed’s loving family includes his beloved wife, Katysue; his children, Guy, Nate (Misty), and Anita; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Cory (who preceded him in death), Brittany, Ashley, Alexis, and Keriann; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Savannah, Mallory, Jaxon, Gryffin, Madison, Nicholas, and Peyton, who carry forward his legacy of faith, service, and love.
