Edward Wayne Tant

Edward Wayne “Bubba” Tant led a life measured by faith, dedication, and the countless lives he touched. Born on August 20, 1955, to Paul and Betty Tant in Nashville, Bubba’s story was one of love—for God, family, and community.

He grew up surrounded by values that would shape his life: hard work, service, and faith. Bubba followed in the footsteps of his father, Paul, who served 33 years with Nashville Fire Department. Inspired, Bubba too answered the call to serve, beginning a 42-year career of commitment to others.

Starting as a firefighter and EMT, Bubba was promoted to engineer, driving the engine and rescue, a role where he brought his mechanical skills and calm leadership to lifesaving situations daily. His work didn’t stop at the fire hall. He partnered with KME and Nashville Fire to help design a fire rescue, one that bore his fingerprints in every detail, now proudly known as “Bubba Built.”

His story wasn’t just about fire trucks and emergencies. It was about how he made people feel—safe, seen, and loved. His workshop was never just for cars; it was where stories were shared, problems were solved, and lessons were passed on. A gifted mechanic for 30 years, he mentored many, both in the fire and the automotive worlds, always with patience, a knowing smile, and unmistakable Bubba wisdom.

Above all else, he was a family man. A devoted husband to Paula for 50 years, together they raised three children, who in turn gave him the joy of eleven grandchildren.

At the center of his life was his faith. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and he lived by Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Whether he was in the fire hall, under the hood of a car, or sitting around the table with his family, Bubba lived this verse with deep conviction.

He passed into the arms of the Lord on December 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with occupational cancer, a final chapter that only further revealed his resilience and unshakable faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul, and his sister and leaves behind a family and a fire department who carry his legacy forward.

His life is not defined by the years he lived but by the lives he changed. His kindness, smile, and relentless light in the face of darkness left a mark that time cannot erase. He was a mentor, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a servant, a hero, and a legend to many.

His life was well lived, his love well shared. He is greatly missed.
