Garry Charles Sanders‚ 20‚ a volunteer member of the Sansom Park Fire Department‚ died on February 15‚ 1999‚ while fighting a church fire. A certified welder with the State of Texas‚ he was an avid sportsman‚ especially fishing and motor racing. He joined the Sansom Park Department in 1997 following in the footsteps of his brother Steven. Two other firefighters also died in this incident.
