Geneva K. Salyer

Geneva Kay Salyer was born on October 13, 1966, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Buell Webb and the late Frances Webb. She carried a deep love for family and community, always putting others before herself. She was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Geneva took great pride in creating a warm and loving home. She shared 37 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Paul Salyer. They were blessed with a son, Justin Salyer (Lindsey Salyer), and grandchildren, Abby and Chass Ramey. She adored her grand-dogs and carried in her heart the love of grandchildren Rhett and Chesney Salyer, two little souls who were never able to be in her arms but were always in her heart.

Geneva was a devoted sister to Veva Reed (Jeff Reed) and cherished the memory of her late brother, Greg Webb (Belinda Webb). She was also loved by extended family and close friends.

Her passion for service was evident in her 37 years with the fire department. As a founding member of the Red Bush Volunteer Fire Department, she played a key role in establishing the department in 1986. She served as a safety officer for 30 years and was also a certified Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Geneva always ensured that firefighters had water, Gatorade, or soda at scenes, keeping them hydrated and cared for. In 2023, she was honored as Firefighter of the Year for her dedication.

Geneva was known for her kindness and generosity. A devoted church member, she found joy in lifting others up. Whether lending a helping hand, offering encouragement, or providing comfort, she was a pillar of strength. She always had candy in her pocketbook, ready to share a little joy. She loved traveling to Tennessee, especially visiting Cades Cove and watching the bears.

On August 29, 2023, Geneva Kay Salyer passed away, leaving a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and fellow firefighters. Though no longer physically present, her spirit lives on in the lessons she taught, the lives she touched, and the countless memories she created.

Geneva’s legacy will forever be one of love, service, and dedication. Her impact on the fire department and community will not be forgotten, and her memory will continue to inspire future generations. We will miss her dearly but know she rests in God’s hands.
