Firefighter George S. Rice, age 38, of the Fire Department City of New York died on August 2, 1978 in a roof collapse during a fire at a Waldbaum’s Supermarket in Brooklyn, New York.
He was assigned to Ladder Company 153 and was appointed to the department on August 14, 1965. His father was also a firefighter.
George was known for his energy and eagerness to get involved in his community. He was very involved at his kid’s school at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Caroleann and 2 children.
