Captain Gerald C. Halloran, age 57, of the Kansas City Fire Department (MO), died on November 29, 1988, in an ammonium nitrate and fuel oil mixture explosion on U.S. Highway 71.
Gerald had served in the Kansas City Fire Department for 38 years and was senior captain of the department. A life-long Kansas City, Missouri, resident, h was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City, Missouri Citizens for Life, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the John F. Kennedy Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Local 42 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
He was survived by his wife Leota ; his two sons; one daughter; stepmother; two brothers; two sisters; and six grandchildren.
My mother was his cousin. Peggy Brownsberger (Lydon). There are 8 of us (7 girls and 1 boy). I know my mother was devastated when this happened. She called her sister Noreen in Galway Ireland. One of my sisters is still in contact with John Halloran. Let him Rest In Peace
