Roll of Honor

Gerald Ertle

Submitted by his Son

Gerald was a member of BVFD for around 10 years and at the time of his death he was Captain. If there was a meeting‚ class‚ or workday at the department you could count on him being there.

He was a member of Southside Baptist Church‚ Yazoo City MS where he served as a Deacon‚ also working with the youth.

Gerald was an active member of the Benton Academy Booster Club. Taking a very active part in all school functions‚ and was awarded the Service Award in 1997.

He served a term in the Air National Guard.

Being a mechanic by trade‚ he achieved the ASE Master Technician. A very family oriented man he did his part in making every occassion a special one. He was an Assistant Boy Scout leader‚ for seven years‚ many times taking his off time to go on trips with the scout troop.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years‚ Jo Anne‚ a daughter Stephanie and a son Shane‚ also a member of the Benton Volunteer Fire Department. At our home if the pager toned‚ we all went‚ because to quote Gerald ‘that sound means someone needs our help’

A kind‚ loving‚ and thoughtful firefighter greatly missed by all.
