Herbert C. Caldwell III

Submitted by his wife

Herbert Caldwell was a dedicated husband‚ father‚ friend and firefighter. He left this world on December 17‚ 2004‚ while responding to a fire call in Newberry Township. Herb was 49 years old. He will be sadly missed‚ but never forgotten. Herb lives on in our hearts and our memories.

Herb spent 31 years together with the love of his life‚ his wife‚ Deb. Deb always knew that Herb was a special person to her and believed that he was a special person to others. After Herb left this world‚ this was confirmed by the recognition that Herb received and the comments that everyone shared with her indicating that he was a special person to many.

Herb and Deb have three sons‚ Herbie IV‚ Bradley and Brandon‚ who are all interested in firefighting. Herb had taken the boys along with him to the fire station for fire calls‚ fire training and B-I-N-G-O. Herb had spent time with his family 4-wheeling‚ motorcycle riding‚ camping and boating. Herb’s last summer was spent vacationing with his family at Disney World and camping at Chincoteague. Herb is also survived by his mother‚ Olga‚ four sisters‚ Chris‚ Alice‚ Barbara and Libby and one brother‚ Michael.

Herb dedicated his life to public service. He ran with 12 different fire departments during his 35 years as a volunteer firefighter. He held several different ranks through the years with the highest rank being Fire Chief. Herb was also a full-time police officer for the Borough of Shiremanstown for 12 years. He also served for several years as a part-time police officer with the Boroughs of Lemoyne and West Fairview.

Herb was the owner of B & B Communications‚ located in New Cumberland‚ PA. B & B Communications is a company that specializes in sales and servicing of emergency rescue equipment. Herb’s wife has taken over the day-to-day operations of B & B Communications.

Herb could always put a smile on your face by cracking a joke or making a funny face at you. Anytime that you needed to talk to someone or needed help with anything‚ Herb was always there for you. Herb would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. Herb would always insist on picking up the tab and if you tried to pay him back‚ you would find the tab back in your possession. To know Herb was to love him‚ he was a very special person to many and will always be remembered and loved!

  2. I was friends with Herb since junior high school. We stayed in touch for many years as I was a police officer in Lemoyne when he was in Shiremanstown.

I was quite saddened to hear of his passing.

I will always remember him as a friend.

    – Paul Gaughan
