Jalen ShaQuille DaShun Smith was born March 31‚ 1992‚ to Charlean Mosley. God was with him from the beginning. As a child Jalen knew what he wanted to do‚ and his dream was to become a firefighter. He was introduced to it by his grandfather ‚ Charlie Butler‚ who was a volunteer firefighter for Jackson Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Jalen became a junior volunteer fireman at the age of fifteen. He graduated in June of 2010‚ and two years later he was an active member of Jackson Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

His life and career were just beginning‚ and he had a bright future ahead of him. He was accepted into the Kilgore Fire Academy and would have started in January 2013‚ but God had other plans for Jalen. His life ended December 3‚ 2012‚ when he was in a car accident while on his way to the fire station to get his gear to go work a wreck.

He leaves behind a loving mother‚ Charlean Mosley; five sisters‚ Ambreana Johnson‚ Dominique Johnson‚ CaTina Francis‚ Genia Terry‚ and Jeree Terry; maternal grandparents‚ Charlie and Jossie Butler; uncle‚ Anthony Butler: and two nieces‚ Aubrey Johnson and Audrey Johnson.
