Born on February 5, 1971, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Jeffrey “Jeff” Deschenes dedicated his life to serving the community that raised him. From the time he was just three years old, Jeff knew he wanted to be a firefighter, and he made that dream a reality.

Jeff began his firefighting career in 2000 with the Lawrence Fire Department. A few years later, he married Kathy, and together, over the years, they built a beautiful family with their daughter, Emily, son, Ryan, and their dog, Mystic.

His passion for helping others extended far beyond the firehouse. Jeff was constantly learning, growing, and sharing his knowledge. He became an EMT instructor, known for his high standards and passion—qualities that made him a mentor to so many. In 2012, he joined the North Andover Fire Department, where he served as EMS coordinator and was instrumental in improving emergency care for the community.

In 2006, he was recognized by both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Massachusetts Senate as Lawrence Firefighter of the Year. Later, in 2015, Jeff received the Recognition of Outstanding Contribution to EMS Region III. In 2018, he was honored with the Gift of Caring Award from the Trauma Intervention Program of Merrimack Valley (TIP). In 2019, he was named Firefighter of the Year by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for his service and dedication. In 2023, Jeff was presented with the Director’s Award on behalf of the NorthEast EMS Executive Director of Region III. Most recently, in 2024, he received the EMS Lifesaving Medal from NorthEast EMS Region III, a testament to his lifelong commitment to protecting and saving lives.

Jeff also worked at Lawrence General Hospital, guiding young EMTs and continuing his mission of service.

Sadly, Jeff passed away on May 29, 2025, from a sudden medical emergency. His loss leaves a tremendous void, not only in his family, but in the lives of the countless people he helped, taught, and inspired.

Jeff’s legacy is one of dedication, love, and service.
