On December 17, 2008 Jerry Parrick had responded to a weather related single motor vehicle incident on an interstate highway. He had been instructed by the incident commander to park his privately owned vehicle (POV) upstream to warn oncoming traffic. He was fatally injured when a tractor-trailer struck his parked POV.
The National Emergency Training Center (NETC) campus will be closed during the government shutdown, including access to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
