John A. Dunn, 51, of Sayville, New York, died on November 7, 2016.
“Johnny Dunn” was a New York City firefighter for many years. He was a first responder during 9/11 who worked numerous hours at Ground Zero.
Respected by many as a hard worker and a man with a stubborn mindset, he would work tirelessly to get a job done. He was avidly into hunting and fishing and shared many good times with relatives and friends on hunting and fishing excursions. With a heart of gold and witty humor, he could brighten any room.
Even though his loss was devastating, we know he is no longer suffering and can finally sleep at peace.
He was survived by his wife, Nikki; his mother, Dolores Mae: siblings, Jimmy Joe and Jackie; nephews, Christopher and Eric; nieces, Jamie and Courtney; siblings-in-law, Regina, Chris Monaco, and Joseph and Margie Doumas; parents-in-law, Phil and Denise Doumas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his beloved pets, Emily and Elliott.
He was predeceased by his father, “Jimmy D,” and his faithful dog, Sam, who were there to meet him on his journey home.
I met John through his brother Jim while we were both in the Air Force. John and I hit it off immediately, even though I lived in Chicago we kept in touch and saw each other occasionally when I was in New York. Even ten years later since his passing not a month goes by where I don’t think of him. John will never be forgotten by me and I miss him dearly.
