John Saunders, 41, of Willard, Ohio, was born April 17, 1984, in Oberlin, Ohio. He passed away in the line of duty on April 17, 2025, bravely battling a house fire in Greenwich, Ohio. A devoted father, dedicated firefighter, skilled mechanic, and loyal friend, John lived a life defined by service, hard work, and heart.
John was the proud father of two children—his daughter, Kila, and his son, Kaden—along with his loyal dog, Duramax. He was a beloved son to Lisa, a big brother to Brad, and a cherished grandson to Charlie and Betty. He was also a fun-loving uncle to his nieces and nephews and a friend to all who knew him.
For 15 years, John served as a volunteer firefighter with the Tri-Community Fire Department in Greenwich, Ohio. He was deeply committed to the fire service, completing every available training opportunity and always striving to improve himself for the sake of his team and community. His dedication, courage, and willingness to help others defined his service and ultimately his sacrifice.
John worked at R&L Carriers in Norwalk. Ohio, for 20 years. He began his career in the tire shop, later becoming a trailer mechanic, and ultimately rose to the position of shop supervisor. He held a CDL and was respected for his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering work ethic. Outside of his full-time job, he ran his own shop, Saunders Auto and Diesel, where he spent countless hours doing mechanic work for family, friends, and community members.
A true gearhead at heart, John loved truck pulling. Recently, he had purchased a new truck specifically for pulling competitions, doing most of the mechanical work himself. He was a proud member of the Central Ohio Truck Pulling Circuit (COTPC) and enjoyed every moment of the sport, from the competition to the camaraderie.
John was known for his sense of humor, sarcasm, and larger-than-life personality. He loved to joke around, have fun, and bring laughter to every room he entered. He was the life of the party, the one people turned to when they needed help, and the one they could always count on to speak his mind with honesty and conviction.
Above all, John was a man who served his family, friends, his community, and his fellow firefighters. His bravery, generosity, and spirit will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the people he protected, and the example he set.
John Saunders is honored here for his sacrifice, his service, and the hero he was every day of his life.
