Lathan G. Smith‚ Jr. was a firefighter with the City of Talladega Fire Department from 1983 until his death. He was a founding member of East Providence Volunteer Fire Department in 1984 and worked his way to the rank of Chief at the time of his death. Firefighting was his life.
His survivors include: Pam Smith‚ wife; Amanda Smith‚ Misty Smith‚ Melissa Joy Smith and Brittany Kay Smith‚ daughters; Brandon Smith‚ son; Carra Strickland‚ Martha (Jarrett) Malone‚ Rebecca Smith and Gene Smith‚ sisters; David Smith‚ Eddie (RIP) Smith‚ James (Boogie) Smith and Phillip Smith‚ brothers. He is also survived by his fellow firefighters at East Providence Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Talladega Fire Department.
He was also a great man with help to all. His family was as much a part of his life doing his best to provide for them. I was a brother -in-law at the time of his death. I still think of him often and miss him as much.
