Leo W. Koponen‚ 49‚ a contract pilot for the U.S. Forest Service/Courtney Aviation‚ died on May 15‚ 2000‚ when his plane crashed during a surveillance mission in New Mexico. He began flying at age 17 and had more than 9‚000 hours of flying time. He served in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army.
