Age: 62

Year Honored:

Mark Keller

Mark was a fun-loving husband to Stacie and a devoted father of seven children. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom he loved teaching, playing with, and spending time with.

Before becoming a firefighter, Mark built a career in concrete finishing and owned his own small business. He continued finishing concrete throughout his life, often doing work for his fire brothers and welcoming anyone who wanted to work alongside him.

Mark was hired by the Mesa Fire Department in October of 1990, beginning a lifelong commitment to public safety and emergency response. Driven by a deep desire to help others, he earned his paramedic certification in 1995, providing advanced, life-saving care during emergencies. He continued to expand his expertise, achieving his Hazardous Materials certification in 2000. In 2005, he became a technical rescue technician, demonstrating exceptional skill, professionalism, and calm under the most demanding conditions. For a time, he also served as a fire investigator.

From 2020 to 2022, Mark proudly served as a recruit training officer, where he made a lasting and positive impact on new firefighters entering the profession. He was passionate about mentoring, teaching, and setting the standard for service, leaving an impact that many carried throughout their careers. In 2013, Mark’s leadership was recognized when his crew was awarded Outstanding Crew of the Year.

Throughout his career, Mark exemplified the highest ideals of the fire service—selflessness, integrity, and service above self. His knowledge, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact on his department, his colleagues, and the community he proudly served.

Mark loved adventure. He enjoyed motorcycles, guns, and golfing with his buddies. He shared a love of sports, scuba diving in the Caribbean, and hiking many trails with his wife, family, and friends.

He deeply loved his fire family. We will all miss his huge bear hugs and “classic” jokes. He was always quick to make those around him laugh and feel loved.

Mark’s sacrifice and legacy will never be forgotten.
