Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Age: 34
Year of Death: 2001

Michael Dermott Mullan

Michael was a R.N. working in the E.R. at Mercy Hospital. He was a captain in the U.S.A.R. and he was a New York City firefighter. Michael spent his life in service to his fellow man. He was a great ‘piano man‚’ had a silly sense of humor and told horrendous jokes.

He was respected by his friends‚ neighbors‚ and co-workers. He was deeply loved by his family – forever in our hearts.

  5. I met Mrs. Mullan on the 4th of July in 2004/2005 at the temporary memorial near ground zero. Near the exit was Michael’s memorial program that was sitting on a table and as my family was in the restroom, I sat down and read it from beginning to end. Upon finishing reading it, a gentleman who was working at the site came to me and told me Michael’s mother was there and would I like to meet her. With tears in my eyes, all I could do was say I’m sorry and thank you for sharing his son and she gave me the sweetest hug. She asked me where I was from and I said Michigan and she asked if I would do her a favor. I said yes, absolutely and she handed me a picture of Michael and said that he loved to travel and would I take him back to Michigan with me. I was more than happy to honor her request. Michael sits at my desk and has been with me ever since she gave him to me.

  6. My name is Michael Patrick Patterson and I am a Retired Deputy Chief of Operations for the San Jose Fire Department and current Executive Chief and Training Chief for the Front Range Fire Consortium in Northern Colorado. In 2018 I was honored to carry your memory as I completed the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Red Rocks in Colorado. Tomorrow, along with our current recruits in our fire academy, I will once again carry your memory as I climb in your honor. Thank you for your service and I pledge to never forget your sacrifice for THEM! All gave some, some gave ALL. God Bless!

    – Michael Patterson
  7. My husband and I met Michael’s mother at the Pentagon Memorial in 2010. She spoke with us and gave my husband ( Air Force active duty at the time ) Michael’s picture . My husband has carried it with him and actually talked about this encounter during his retirement ceremony ! I’m sad to read she has passed on , but know she is reunited with her hero son !

  8. I served with Mike at Ft. Devens MA. with the 46th Combat Support Hospital in 87′. He was definitely a great man with a BIG HEART. He kept everyone in stitches with his jokes. He was quick and witty. It was an honor to have known and served with him.

Ironically, as of today 12/08/2020, I am being voted in with the New Ellenton SC Volunteer Fire Department as a probation candidate. I would like to think he may look over me during calls.

God Bless Michael Mullan!!!….. Love ya Brother!!!

    – Jim Seeley
  9. I walked For Michael Dermott Mullan today at the Lambton College 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Thank you for your service and the ultimate sacrifice.

    – Amy Anderson
  10. I had the honor of carrying a laminated picture of Michael when I participated in the 2021 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to honor fallen firefighters. When I said Michael’s name and rang the bell in his honor I watched the two Chicago firefighters in their dress uniform salute with respect and although I did not know Michael I want to honor his bravery and sacrifice and will now keep both him and his family in my prayers always.

    – Jake
  11. I used to work with Michael’s relation Ralph Hall in the Fire Service West Midlands UK. Ralph used to work on the fire boat in Glasgow before he moved to Tipton. Ralph was always joking. Michael must have been a ‘chip off the old block.’

Tipton Fire station organised a car wash weekend for the 9/11 victims.

    RIP Michael
