Michael J. Lyons

Firefighter Michael J. Lyons proudly served in Squad Company 41 from 2000-2001 and for five years prior at Engine Company 44‚ both FDNY. Michael is a 1993 graduate of Manhattan College‚ B.S. Mechanical Engineering. Michael loved his job and everything about it: the responsibility‚ the training‚ and the service to others. His humor and enthusiasm carried throughout his life and he will be missed dearly.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Elaine and his precious daughters Caitlyn Rose and Mary Michael.

  4. The place I work Made Badges of all the fire fighters that died on and asked us if we wanted to wear the badges on 9/11. So I picked Mr. Lyons. I continue to wear the badge every day. I don’t believe that one day is enough. I also wear it outside of work. that you for your service to your country Mr. Lyons.

I climbed in your honor in my first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Baltimore (July 2015), and I have carried your ID badge during every subsequent stair climb in which I have participated. In October 2015, I had the honor of visiting the Squad 41 house in South Bronx and meeting your firefighting brothers.

  8. I met Mike before he became a firefighter. He was fresh out of college and did inside sales at an engineering company we worked for. He had no reason to be nice to me but he and I become friends.

    He would buy The Chief all the time to see if he passed the civil service exam to become a firefighter. Its all he ever talked about. A few years later his picture was in the NYPost for rescuing a senior citizen from a burning buidling. I was so proud of him. He was truly a special person. I miss him.

  12. One Kind Cookie organizes a cookie delivery event every year. This event is comprised of many volunteers across several states delivering cookies to police and fire departments across the country to show our appreciation for their services. This year, I deliver in honor of Michael Lyons.

  13. This upcoming Wednesday is my 22nd birthday, and would be my fathers 54th. I always find myself as our birthday comes closer digging though my fathers old things as well as anything new online I haven’t seen. Just the other day I discovered the name of his old hot dog stand, and today these comments on this memorial wall brought me to tears. Thank you to everyone that keeps his sacrifice in their memory, it means way to much to me to describe. I care on everyday in you honor, love you dad. happy 54th birthday.

  14. I recently did a stair climb to raise money for emergency responders in need. I wore Michael’s badge and I wanted to let Michael’s family know that his sacrifice is not forgotten. I double the amount of stairs required thinking I have the luxury of coming back down… rest in peace

  15. I climbed at Cincinnati TQL stadium 9/9/23 in honor of Michael Lyons. His badge will go back home to Alabama to hang on wall at Hatton Fire Dept where I am a member. We will never forget Michael, he lives on! God bless to the family.

  20. I didn’t know your dad, but the NYFD was asking people to attend funerals so I took my three sons to honor him. I contributed to an educational fund for a few years and hope that was helpful. My boys are fully grown now, and every year your dad’s name – Michael Joseph “Apollo” Lyons – is in our hearts and minds for the sacrifice that he made.
