Peter A. Nelson‚ 42‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Rescue 4. A 15-year veteran‚ he was also a third assistant chief in Huntington Manor‚ N.Y.‚ where he had volunteered since the age of 18. He and his wife were expecting their first child. She was born on October 5‚ three hours after her father’s Memorial Service.
Tonight on the 17th anniversary of 9/11 I picked a random name just as I do every year. This year, Firefighter Nelson I’m raising a glass in your honor. Rest in peace.

– Lyndsi NelsonTomorrow (9/11/2020) I will be walking 5 miles for a personal memorial of 9/11/01 in full fire gear – I am not a firefighter. This is a first for me. As I have been training with the gear this week, I have begun to think of ways to honor the fallen firefighters so I scrolled through the list of firefighters that sacrificed their life. I was looking for a Nelson. I will walk in his honor.
From Hallsville, TX – We will NEVER forget!

This year, we all held a minute’s silence in your honour, Peter. Gone, but never forgotten.

22 years ago, I saw my son’s heartbeat for the first time on 9/11. I was seven weeks pregnant. It was a strange day, feeling such personal elation amidst the horrific tragedy unfolding in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. Now, twenty-two years later, that little flutter has grown into an amazing man and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue firefighter. To honor those fallen in NYC, he completed an honorary climb of the Las Vegas Stratosphere for 9/11. It is custom for LVFR firefighters to wear a lanyard with the picture of a fallen 9/11 firefighter on their climb. It was my son’s privilege to honor Peter Nelson out of Rescue 4. Peter sacrificed everything on that day and my son was proud to be able to carry him up the 108 floors of the Strat. The immense pride, respect, and gratitude I feel for our first responders, and firefighters in particular, cannot be calculated. So much love and respect to Peter and his family. ❤️🩹
– Jennifer Basquiat-JonesToday in Medina Ohio I had the honor of carrying the picture of Peter Nelson in our annual T2T 5K event. We will never forget all of the victims of this horrible tragedy, especially our safety forces who were running in while everyone else was running out.
– Roger BuhoveckyI wore firefighter Nelson’s name around my neck as I did our 100 club tower challenge in Northern Arizona today on the 23rd anniversary of 9-11. We climbed the equivalent of 100 flights, 2071 steps, and honored those who gave their lives that day. RIP Peter.
– Robyn MartinMay your memory live through your family! I did the 22 year anniversary of the stair climb at Lambeau Field in WI last year. I didn’t know this site existed otherwise I would have posted then. Hope this finds those who miss you. I walked all 78 floors rang a bell and called out your name then continued to 110 in your honor. May you rest in peace.
