Firefighter Raymond “Ray” Moreau devoted more than 35 years to the Plainville Fire Department, faithfully serving the community that was both his hometown and his heart. A lifelong resident of Plainville, Ray embodied the quiet strength, humility, and dedication that define the fire service. He served not for recognition but because helping others was simply who he was.
After graduating from E C Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain, Ray began a long career with United Cable, which later became Comcast. Throughout years of change, he remained a steady and trusted employee, known for his dependability, skill, and subtle sense of humor. Colleagues describe him as the person who could be counted on to do things right, without complaint and without seeking the spotlight.
Ray joined the Plainville Fire Department in July 1990 and became one of its most respected and reliable members. Over the course of his service, he responded to thousands of calls, each approached with calm professionalism, compassion, and teamwork. His dedication to the department and to the people of Plainville was constant. Fellow firefighters recall his steady presence, his quiet leadership, and the way he made those around him better simply by example.
Ray’s commitment to Plainville extended far beyond his time in uniform. He was deeply involved in the rhythms of the town he loved, bowling at Lessard Lanes, enjoying Friday mac and cheese at Saint’s, and transforming his Timber Hill home into a Halloween favorite where neighbors were greeted with laughter and full-size candy bars. He understood that community is built through consistency, kindness, and joy in everyday moments.
Ray shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Chris. Together, they built a life grounded in love, humor, and the kind of partnership that drew others close. He was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and the “funcle” who brought fun and laughter to every family gathering. To those who knew him best, Ray was steady, good-humored, and deeply loyal. He had a gift for making people feel at ease and for finding lightness even in difficult times.
Firefighter Moreau’s life was one of quiet heroism and enduring service. He exemplified what it means to give of oneself completely, without expectation, without hesitation, and always with heart. His legacy lives on in the Plainville Fire Department, in the community he helped protect, and in the countless lives touched by his care and devotion.
