FDNY Battalion Chief Robert Miuccio Sr., 76, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, after a long battle with 9/11-related cancers.
Robert was born April 16, 1942, in Staten Island. During his childhood, he lived in Stapleton, Tompkinsville, and South Beach. He went to Brooklyn Tech High School and then joined the United States Air Force.
While stationed in Cape Cod, he met the love of his life, Linda Lee Yarbrough, whom he married three months later. The couple moved to Robert’s native Staten Island and raised their three children, Robert Jr., Michael, and Jacqueline, at their home in Westerleigh.
Robert joined the FDNY in 1968 and retired in 2007. During his career, he was assigned to Ladder 45, Ladder 113, Ladder 147, and Battalion 22.
In March of 2016, he was diagnosed with 9/11-related cancers related to his work as a first responder at Ground Zero. Robert’s brother, Richard, perished in the terror attacks, but Robert continued for the next three-and-a half months, leading efforts to recover the remains of the dead.
Robert was a longtime parishioner and usher at Holy Family Church.
His wife, Linda, passed away in 2009.
Robert was the dear brother of Mary Urs and the late Richard Miuccio, who was killed on 9/11.
He is survived by his three children, Robert Jr., Michael, and Jacqueline; his two grandchildren, Sabrina Lynn and William; his daughter-in-law, Christine; and many nieces and nephews.
