Roger Estes

Roger Estes was born December 11, 1944, in Derry, New Hampshire, to the late Albert and Gladys Estes. Roger was a dedicated public servant. At the age of 17, he joined and served in the Navy for four years. When he left the Navy, he worked for the Town of Derry Highway Department for ten years. During this time, he was also in the Naval Reserves as a Seabee from 1974 until 1979. In 1979, at the age of 34, he joined the Derry Fire Department, where he became a full-time firefighter/EMT- I. He served for 21 years before retiring and moving to New Tazewell, Tennessee. In 2001, he joined the South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for another 21 years.

Roger was a devoted and loving family man. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Rita Estes; his two daughters, Faith Grace (Jonothan) and Kristie Haynes (Jeffery); four grandchildren, Vanessa Squibb, Jonothan Grace Jr., Devin Estes, and Matthieu Caron; and eight great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

During Roger’s life, he belonged to many different veteran organizations, where he helped his fellow veterans. He also served the community by volunteering his time. He organized gifts and food baskets for the needy during the holiday season, always willing to help anyone in need.

He loved antique cars, car shows, and long walks. His 42 years in the fire service were one of his greatest joys. He was always striving to better his education by attending different classes at the National Fire Academy. He was always available to go to meetings and talk to his fellow firefighter brothers.

Roger passed on July 4, 2022, while working traffic control for a fire department fundraiser. He is missed very much by his family, friends, and fire department brothers.
