Assistant Chief
Age: 43

Scott Glass

Chief Glass was born in Shamrock, Texas, to Bob and Janet Glass on November 10, 1980. He grew up in McLean, Texas, graduating from McLean High School in May 1999. He served in the army for four years. He reported to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, for basic, then to Ft. Benning, Georgia, for paratrooper school. Unfortunately, he injured his knee. He then spent time stateside at Fort Drum, New York, 10th Mountain Division. He deployed to Kosovo, where he earned a NATO Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Kosovo Campaign Medal. Other medals and ribbons include Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. He stood at the casket of fallen soldiers, serving on funeral detail.

In 2006, after Scott returned home from his military service, the Texas Panhandle had an outbreak of wildfires. Seeing all the trucks and action during that time, he went down to the local McLean Volunteer Fire Department and asked if he could join.

He attended the Amarillo Fire Academy, graduating in May 2007, and began his employment with Perryton Fire and EMS in July 2007. He was promoted to captain in 2013 and to assistant chief in October 2019. He obtained Master Firefighter Certification in May 2024 from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. He also was certified as a Fire Officer II, Instructor, Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Material Awareness, and Operations. He worked from basic level up to paramedic in December 2011. He certainly loved the community he served, and every October he would teach fire prevention at the local elementary schools. Scott loved watching The Price is Right at the station, which always turned into a competition.

Chief Glass was a devoted, loving, and protective family man. He participated in his kids’ activities and loved to play with them—wrestling, Legos, PlayStation 5—and he even let his daughter, Sarah, attempt to give him a makeover. He loved to take his wife and kids for a ride in his prized 1972 SS Chevelle, green with black racing stripes.

Chief Glass leaves behind his wife of almost 16 years, Melissa; son, Braden; daughter, Sarah; parents, Bob and Janet Glass; brother, Andy Glass; and numerous nieces and nephews. He departed this earth doing what he loved to do, serving his community. He now rests with his Savior Jesus Christ and daughter, Emily Glass.
