Stephen M. Smith

Steve was born on July 13, 1967, to David P. and Marianne (Acker) Smith in Appleton Wisconsin. On December 8, 2018, he was united in marriage to Mary Bloy. Steve was a family man with all the love in the world to give.

He has left behind his two daughters, Samantha (Jacob) Waldschmidt and Brianna “Bear” (significant other Mason Guild) Smith, along with two stepchildren, Nicole (Dan) Wilk and Ashley (Adam) Linsmeyer; grandchildren, Brynn, Gemma, Rylie, and Nolan Linsmeyer and Kylie and Colton Wilk.

Steve valued his time with relatives and friends alike. He had the uncanny ability to sit next to a total stranger and carry on a conversation for hours, with plenty of laughs and an infinite number of bad “dad jokes” at his disposal. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman. With plenty of trophies over the years, what he valued most were the stories and friendships made during any of his outdoors activities and his volunteer work.

A true asset to his family and community, Steve had a passion for volunteering and serving others. Whether it was lending his trailer to a friend or dedicating many days and nights to the Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department, the Walleyes for Tomorrow Club, the Musky Club, or numerous other organizations, Steve took great pride in the ability to help others. He had so much more to give and so many more adventures to undertake.

Steve had a favorite story that he loved to share about being on the fire department. After just finishing up with grocery shopping, the fire department was paged out on a fire call, so Steve immediately went right to the call and was the first to arrive. It was a car engine fire. Steve, with his creative thinking, ran back to his car and grabbed the two gallons of milk that he had just bought at the grocery store, lifted the hood of the car, and proceeded to put out the fire. Once the fire was out, the fire trucks pulled up, and Steve told them he had it all under control. It is a story that is still told to this day. Steve absolutely loved his firefighting family!
