Steve Alan Weikle

Steve Alan Weikle was a devoted husband, father, and lifelong servant to his community. For eighteen wonderful years, he shared a deep and loving partnership with his wife, Libby Weikle. He was also a proud and caring father to Stephen “Joe” Weikle; his wife, Shannon; and granddaughter, Carlea, whom he cherished deeply.

Born on January 4,1955, in Covington, Virginia, Steve was the son of the late Cebert Bernard Weikle and Ileita Gillespie Weikle. He built a long and dedicated career as a production operator with MeadWestvaco, retiring after an impressive 42 years of service.

Steve’s commitment to helping others extended far beyond his professional life. For fifty years, he served his community through Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue and the Paint Bank Fire Department. Over the decades, he held many roles—firefighter, EMT B, safety officer, CPR instructor, training officer, 2nd vice president—and most notably served as chief for eighteen years. His leadership, courage, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who served beside him.

One of Steve’s greatest passions was his involvement with the Virginia State Firefighters Association. He rarely missed a conference or meeting, and he cherished the camaraderie, mentorship, and shared purpose that came with being part of the VSFA family. For five wonderful years, he proudly served as co-chairman of the Truck Rodeo, a role he embraced with enthusiasm, dedication, and his trademark good humor. His leadership and commitment helped make the event a highlight for departments across the state, and his presence there will be deeply missed.

Outside of his service, Steve found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and rolling hay with his close friends Rich and Deb. Some of his happiest days were spent on the road exploring new places or relaxing on the lake with his family.
On February 13, 2025, Steve once again demonstrated his selfless commitment to others when he responded to a structure collapse involving trapped farm animals. Though he sustained no injuries while rescuing the animals, he suffered a cardiac event shortly after returning home. His final act, like so many before it, was one of courage, compassion, and service.

Steve Alan Weikle lived a life defined by love, loyalty, and an unwavering dedication to helping others. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the community he served and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
