Terryson Jackson

Terryson Jackson was born on August 2, 1973, to Oliver Jackson and Dorothy Jno Finn, in The Commonwealth of Dominica. His formative years were filled with love and laughter, surrounded by friends and family. Terryson relocated from Dominica to Florida in 1989 and quickly adapted to life in the U.S. After a short while, a love for helping people grew in him. He graduated from McArthur High School in 1991, and while trying to figure out what to do with his life, the dream of becoming a firefighter was born. One year later, he stumbled upon another passion…golf. Despite many setbacks, he relentlessly pursued his dreams of becoming a paramedic firefighter, and along the way he developed a formidable golf game.

In March 2004, he achieved his dream of becoming a paramedic firefighter and started his career in the city of Deerfield Beach, Florida. Terryson was a natural! He loved his career and was often vocal about it. “We are blessed,” and “I love my job,” were heard quite regularly. It was not long before Terryson moved up the ranks. He became a lieutenant in November 2011, and joined the BSO Air Rescue team in 2012. Terryson excelled in his career path and became a BSO captain on February 24, 2016. He served on Air Rescue as a captain and program coordinator. He garnered the love and support of many of the rank and file, numerous lifesaving awards, and was an integral part of building up the Air Rescue program. Terryson set his sights on becoming a chief and went at is with reckless abandon. His work ethic unmatched, he was successful in making the battalion chief list in November 2021. Of all the many accolades and awards, none was more deserving. Terryson Jackson was posthumously promoted to the rank of battalion chief on August 29, 2023.

Terryson’s love of sports led him to compete in the Sheriff’s Cup Golf Tournament numerous times. He also participated in several of the Firefighter Game competitions, playing soccer and basketball. He was an integral part of the team as they won countless games and awards for the agency. He had a smile that could light up a room and a personality that was larger than life! Terryson Jackson was a father, a brother, a son, a lover, and a FRIEND. He was one of the best of us and one of the best to ever do it. He will be sorely missed!

Terryson is survived by his mother, Dorothy Finn; father, Pastor Oliver Jackson; children, Jalen Jackson and Mikaella Jackson; sisters, Sherma Jackson, Heather Lestrade, Sanjie Jackson, and Versan Johnson; and brothers, Sergeant Cleavone Brooks and Javer Jackson.
