Tom Moore

Tom grew up in the Central Valley of California with his mom, dad and two younger sisters. Countless weekends were spent hunting, fishing, boating and exploring the outdoors. The Moores were a close-knit family and yet always made room to share their lives with others.

As soon as he turned 18, Tom joined the Keyes Volunteer Fire Department in the small town where he was born and raised. It was that introduction to the fire service that eventually led him down a career path where he was hired as an engineer with the Manteca City Fire Department in 1985. Always making the most of training and learning opportunities, Tom was soon promoted to captain. As years passed, he pursued knowledge and expertise in a variety of areas. From becoming a Hazmat Specialist to establishing the city’s first fire department chaplaincy program, Tom continued to hone his skills and make a difference in the lives of those around him. Whenever he was asked how he liked being a firefighter, he would respond enthusiastically with his huge smile: “It’s the greatest job in the world!”

In 1983, Tom married the love of his life, Robin, and in 1987 they welcomed their first child, Sarah. Five years later, their son, Kevin, was born – front-page news as they ended up calling 9-1-1 for the unexpected home birth. Tom’s deep faith in God and love for his family were reflected in all that he did. He passed on his passion and respect for the outdoors to his children, taking Sarah on a canoeing adventure when she was just five years old, and introducing Kevin to backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains when he was just four-years-old. Tom had a gift for teaching and could easily relate to both young and old. He was a leader in his church, and spent countless hours shepherding people towards Jesus. He often took Sarah and Kevin on “firehouse adventures” when they visited the station. It was his way of not only making the most of time spent with his family but also a unique way of teaching his children about his job.

Tom’s life impacted more people than we’ll ever know. His smile and infectious laugh live on in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him.

  1. A wonderful Christian human being who gave of himself to each person he encountered.

  2. We were fortunate enough t have Tom’s parents stand with us when we were married so we have known Tom since his birth. He was the same aha as our daughter and he was like a son to us. We were always so proud of him. He was so much fun. Always pulling pranks, but when he was in the classrooms teaching the little ones about firefighting, he was completely serious. His love of God and all people was well known. He had so much compassion for everyone, whether he knew them or not. Of course after he met you, he never forgot you. You were his friend from the own. He will never be forgottten. Love you Tommy!
