Age: 67

William G. Noke

“If you love your job, you never work a day in your life.” This quote was Bill’s truth.

In the early 80s, Bill began working part-time shifts at Patriot Ambulance while working his primary job in auto body. In 1986, Bill began as a call firefighter with the Concord Fire Department. Simultaneously, he worked per-diem shifts at Boxborough Fire for thirteen years. In 1989, he became a full-time firefighter on Concord Fire, rose to the rank of lieutenant in 2002, captain in 2011, and retired in January of 2021. Bill adored his career with the CFD.

Being a firefighter and EMT were perfect roles for Bill. He was a most selfless man who constantly looked out for others, doing anything he could to help improve their lives. This held true for each member of his family, his CFD and Patriot families, friends, patients, neighbors, and strangers. Although he was someone whose voice could often be heard from a distance, he cared for others in a quiet way. He never sought attention; rather, any recognition would have made him uncomfortable. In each role he lived, he was a mentor. Bill genuinely wanted the best for others. He was humble, kind, truly happy, and an elaborate storyteller. He was seldom seen without a smile, and his laughter filled a room.

Bill was also a valued member of the Massachusetts District 3 Hazardous Material Response Team. For a short time, he worked with the National Park Service training to fight wildland fires. He remained an EMT and dispatcher at Patriot and was voted 2023 EMT of the Year by his Patriot Family. He held career positions at CFD and Patriot for over thirty-five years, and these roles truly filled his life with joy and the dearest of friends. Just prior to his cancer metastasizing, Bill became a traffic officer with the Concord Police Department. Much to his disappointment, he was unable to report for his first shift.

As he shared with his group on his last tour, “Remember to look out for one another.” This legacy is one he taught us by his loving example.

Within weeks of retiring, Bill began his battle with esophageal cancer. Until his last day, he fought with strength, grace, positivity, and gratitude for life’s blessings.

Most significantly, Bill was an exceptional husband and best friend to Rebecca for twenty-six years, adored father of Walter, William, Samantha, Theodore, Gary, and their spouses, and loving grandfather to their children. Visits to the stations, ballet recitals, hockey games, rides to school, breakfasts out, trips to Maine, and hours of fun at the lake were just a few memories gifted to his family.

Never forgotten…forever loved.
