Thirteen firefighters died while working to extinguish a basement fire at the Bowen-Merrill Bookstore, on March 17, 1890 in Indianapolis.

The Merrimac Street Fire started at the George Bent Bedding Company in the early morning hours of February 5, 1898. Many firefighters were injured on the scene and six made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thirteen firefighters were killed in a warehouse explosion in Butte, Montana on January 15, 1895.

Three firefighters were killed in a roof collapse after a backdraft occurred at a Louisville recreation center fire on December 17, 1960.

On June 4, 1965, two Omaha firefighters died of smoke inhalation after searching for trapped workers at the Swanson Office Building on June 4, 1965.

On May 6, 1925, six Atlanta firefighters were killed instantly during mop up operations at the Jass Manufacturing Company fire. A fire-weakened floor above them, loaded with 150 bales of water-soaked cotton bales, collapsed.

In the early morning hours of March 10, 1941, 13 Brockton firefighters were killed and an additional 20 were injured while fighting a fire in the Strand Theater, located in downtown Brockton.
