Project Roll Call

Project Roll Call honors firefighters who died prior to the establishment of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in 1981

The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in 1981. It is a striking stone monument encircled by plaques listing the names of fire service members who died in the line-of-duty since then.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has initiated Project Roll Call in order to identify and honor firefighters who died in the line-of-duty prior to 1981. The Foundation plans to honor these firefighters on our website and in the National Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Our mission is to provide an avenue for fire service families and departments to submit a profile of a loved one or colleague who made the ultimate sacrifice prior to 1981. All information collected will be researched and verified using guidelines very similar to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Inclusion Criteria.

Project Roll Call

Project Roll Call Update

Project Roll Call is a special section in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park’s Walk of Honor® that honors every firefighter who died in the line of duty prior to 1981. This project contains more than 8,000 firefighters and is arranged alphabetically by state. Within each state, the bricks are arranged chronologically by date of death. Thanks to your support, we have a permanent place to honor and remember these fallen heroes! We are in the process of updating the website with their locations. If you donated a brick for a fallen firefighter to be included in this special section, please check back here for updates.

If you are unable to find your brick and it was ordered prior to 2018 or is not part of Project Roll Call, please contact [email protected].

Memorial Monday

Honoring Firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice before 1981

Memorial Monday is established to remember the sacrifice of firefighters who died in the line of duty before the National Memorial was created in 1981. On the last Monday of every month, a firefighter, or groups of firefighters, will be remembered through information located about the firefighter and their sacrifice.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has embarked on a research project to further honor firefighters from the pre-1981 period. Staff is searching for information about each firefighter honored on the Walk of Honor® through Project Roll Call. If you have information you would like to have added to our Project Roll Call database, please contact Lynn Hawkins at [email protected].
