For as long as she can remember, Abigail’s parents have instilled to her and her siblings the importance of a good education. Her father also told her, “Just remember, keep doing your job and do it well. Everything else will work itself out.” To honor him, she is channeling this into her viewpoint on her education and will work hard and learn everything she can.
Since the passing of her father, Abigail has taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger sister while her mother works tirelessly to provide for Abigail’s older brother, younger sister and herself. Between her own academic pursuits, taking her sister to and from school, practices, doctors’ appointment and such, Abigail finds time to give back to the community through volunteer efforts with Special Olympics, Delaware Human Association and Mom’s House.
She is confident that a career in nursing will enable her to continue the caregiver role that she enjoys so much while giving back to her community. Her school counselor adds, “She has the innate intelligence and passion to help; it seems like a natural next step for her.”
