Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Alyssa McDuffie

Major: Nursing
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Alyssa McDuffie

Alyssa is the youngest of three children, but the first to go to college. She describes herself as ambitious, strong, level-headed, eager and hungry to begin her life. She is pursuing her ADN at Aiken and then will bridge to Augusta University. This will allow her to find meaningful work in a hospital or clinic allowing her to work under contract with completion of her bachelor’s degree in nursing as a condition of employment.

When she is not studying Alyssa can be found working at a child development center or part-time at a wing shop to pay bills. She plays both basketball and football for the Augusta University’s intramural teams. Education, work and sports do not provide her with time for community involvement hours.

Niesha Williams, Human Resources Generalist for the City of Hinesville and Alyssa’s supervisor writes, “I have truly enjoyed working with Alyssa. She demonstrated a confident and positive attitude daily. She was a self-starter and performed all assignments with accuracy and with little to no direct supervision. Alyssa is very strong-willed and determined to succeed.”
